Government of Alberta Innovation Program title

The Innovation Program is designed to support Government of Alberta efforts in identifying, developing and implementing innovations that enhance service delivery capabilities of the Government of Alberta and/or that accelerate the application of new knowledge in Alberta.

Today’s Opportunities, Tomorrow’s Promise: A Strategic Plan for the Government of Alberta lays out a course for the Alberta government for the next 20 years. It identifies the following key opportunities or “pillars” for Alberta to maximize its potential:

The Strategic Plan identifies the following pillars for Alberta to maximize its potential:

  • Unleashing Innovation
  • Leading In Learning
  • Competing in a Global Marketplace
  • Making Alberta the Best Place to Live, Work, and Visit

The Innovation Program contributes in the Ministry of Innovation and Science’s role, as outlined in Alberta Prospers Through Innovation, in championing and leading efforts in Unleashing Innovation in Alberta.

By directly supporting Unleashing Innovation and indirectly supporting the other key opportunities, the Innovation Program also contributes in realizing Alberta’s vision:

A vibrant and prosperous province where Albertans enjoy a superior quality of life and are confident about the future for themselves and their children.

The Innovation Program accomplishes its objectives by building awareness within the Government of Alberta for the need to innovate and by providing essential funding support for projects that satisfy program stipulations and closely align with program criteria and expectations.

The Innovation Program is comprised of the Service Excellence stream and the Unleashing Innovation stream.

All Government of Alberta departments, agencies, boards, commissions, and Crown corporations are eligible to apply for Innovation Program funding support. Private sector, other public sector, not-for-profit organizations and institutions are not eligible to apply for Innovation Program funding support but are encouraged to participate in projects sponsored by eligible government organizations.

Applications submitted to the 2006 competitions in the Service Excellence and Unleashing Innovation streams are currently being reviewed. It is anticipated that decisions will be announced on or before November 15, 2006
